Yeah Baby Music Festival 2009

Yeah Baby – a free live music event that took place in Abingdon Market Place on Saturday 4th July between 12 noon and 5pm to raise money and awareness for the John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House – was the brain child of James Phillpott and band mates from ‘The Benbows’. Inspiration for the event came from their good friend and ex-band mate Andy Boon, who stayed in RMH-Oxford with his wife and daughter when their son, Archie, was very ill.

The Event was very well attended with no less than 250 in the square at any time rising to approximately 350. People travelled from the West of England, the far East of England and even from New Zealand!

The Bands (WHO's NEXT, Flexamuscle & The Benbows) kept the crowd entertained throughout the day. Filling in the Gaps was the compere DJ Marky Mark and the Abingdon Morris men shook their jingly jangly legs.

While the music drew crowds, Absolute Catering enticed more people with the delicious aroma of barbeque. Children could make badges or have their face painted and there was even Indian eyebrow threading available. The Playbus was a big hit with the kids toogiving a safe play environment for free.

The Night continued at the Brewery Tap , with more music from Mew Wooster & Boon, Alphabet Backwards and Danny & the Champions of the World.

None of this would have been possible without the support from many local businesses , the members of the bands, their friends and families who all came together to support and build this event. Feedback from local businesses was that this is what Abingdon needs - well organised entertaiment in the Market Square bringing the centre of Abingdon back to life.

At the last count the total raised for RMH & Oxford Children's Hospital came to £2450. We want to build on what we have created and make an even better day for next year.
