100th family to stay at Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park
Baby Alfie was born 9 weeks premature and immediately placed in an incubator in the special cardiac unit at Arrowe Park. Parents, Brian and Liz, didn’t want to leave Alfie alone, so the Ronald McDonald House, just a two minutes walk from the hospital, was a godsend for the family.
Liz stayed in the House for a whole month, with Brian visiting at weekends. Brian said:
‘Being close to Alfie was incredibly important to us, and meant we were able to bond with him and stay together as a family. It was also a huge help to meet other families in the same position as they knew what we were going through. The House couldn’t have helped us more and we are just so grateful as I’m not sure what we’d have done without it.’
The family returned home in February 2011, four weeks after Alfie was admitted to hospital. Alfie is now a happy and healthy baby.
Whilst Brian was in the House, he volunteered, helping to mop and clean the kitchen which was greatly appreciated by the House Managers! Brian is now going to be taking part in the Wirral Coastal Walk on 22nd May with a few friends, to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park.
