Brighton House provides a port in the storm for parents of premature triplets
When first-time mum Delia Westgate gave birth to triplets 14 weeks early, she was devastated to hear all three boys were very ill.
Due to incubator shortages in Brighton, baby Alex was moved up to London. Tragically, Little Ryan died at just eight days old. When Alex was transferred back down to be near his brother Ben, juggling home and hospital life soon got too much for the Westgates.
“We struggled to cope with a tiny baby at home, a seriously ill baby in hospital and the grief of losing their brother,” says Delia.
Delia’s husband Guy jumped at the chance of moving into the new Ronald McDonald House in Brighton.
“We were desperate to keep our new family together,” he says. “Having a private space to escape from our traumatic day was invaluable. We could stay close to Alex and be together as a family.”
