RMHC

Most people, if asked can probably tell you within a few pounds how much is in their bank account.  They can also probably tell you where the money should go if they were to suddenly die.  Not everyone however, has put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure their wishes are carried out after their death.

Why Everyone Should Make a Will

By making a will you will ensure that your wishes will be carried out in the event of your death.  This could include ensuring the future of your loved ones is secure, passing on items of sentimentality to the next generation of your family and leaving a legacy to a Charity.

What RMHC Would Do With Your Legacy

RMHC has a programme to develop Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Room complexes around the UK, which reaches way into the future.  These facilities will provide a haven for the families of children being cared for in hospitals and hospices at their time of greatest need.  In order to maintain our ambitious plans, we need to increase our fundraising and your legacy will help us to bring these projects to fruition.  With 1 in 10 children being admitted to hospital every year, there are a lot of families not going home to their own beds every night and needing the support that Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms can provide.

Types of Legacy

There are three types of legacy that you can leave to RMHC:

Specific Legacies are gifts of possessions such as shares, items of jewellery or art that may have a significant value to the Charity.

Pecuniary Legacies are gifts of sums of money.  For example, you may decide to leave £10,000 to RMHC upon your death.  You need to bear in mind that the value of the gift that you leave will be worth more today than it will in years to come and you may therefore need to revise your will from time to time.

Residuary Legacies are the value of whatever remains after funeral costs, household expenses, tax due, costs of administering your estate etc, and after the gifts of money and possessions have been made.

How To Leave a Legacy

Whichever type of legacy you choose to leave to RMHC, we strongly recommend that you do this in conjunction with your Solicitor.  They will be happy to talk to you about setting up a will if you do not already have one, or updating an existing will.  It may not cost as much as you think to ensure your affairs are handled in accordance with your wishes.
