Bedding appeal for hospital families
A charity that provides free accommodation for the families of children being treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is to launch a fundraising appeal for fresh bedding
Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, the 61 bedroom ‘home away from home’ that gives families a place to stay so that they can be near their children in hospital, is launching its fundraising appeal – Make a Bed in May – on Thursday 1 May 2014.
The House will be asking the people of Birmingham, as well as local businesses, to donate funds that would allow it to replace the bed linen on 240 beds.
A donation of £50 will be enough to buy a new set of linen for one bed – including a fitted sheet, quilt, pillow and pillow protector.
The Birmingham House, which last year provided over 1,000 families with a place to stay, hopes to raise £12,000 from the appeal that will run throughout May – enough to buy a new set of bed linen for 240 beds at the House and give the families who stay with them an even better night’s sleep.
Libby Aston, House Manager at Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, explains:
“Our staff, volunteers and supporters in the local community have always tried to provide our families, many of whom stay with us for weeks or even months at a time, with a true ‘home away from home’ experience and a bit of normality while they have children in hospital.
“Our House is five years old in November and, with 4,500 families staying with us since we first opened our doors, some of the bedding is beginning to show its age.
We know how important a good night’s sleep can be to a parent who has a poorly child, and we would love to be able to give them a more comfortable bed so that they can get the rest they so often need. We hope the good people of Birmingham can help.”
