CAMBERWELL CHARITY GETS SPRING CLEAN FROM VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Camberwell prepared yesterday (Wednesday 19 February 2014) for an early spring clean of the 24 bedroom House, which provides much-needed accommodation for the families of sick children being treated at King’s College Hospital.  

As well as pitching in with hours of deep cleaning that left the House’s bedrooms, kitchens and lounges sparkling, the team of kind-hearted volunteers from several McDonald’s restaurants in Kent also handed a welcome donation of £5,000 to House Manager Melissa Kirk.

The money was raised by super staff at six McDonald’s stores across the Medway region of Kent. They pulled out all the stops to raise money through a magnificent mix of in-store fun-days, raffles and face-painting sessions for children. The funds raised will go towards the running costs of the House, which last year helped 327 families stay close to their children in hospital, and will be recognised with a plaque on the door of one of the bedrooms.

Ronald McDonald House Camberwell is one of 14 Houses in the UK run by Ronald McDonald House Charities, an independent charity which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation at hospitals across the UK. It enables seriously ill children to have their families close by when they are undergoing treatment and allows them to maintain a degree of normal family life.


Ronald McDonald House Charities opened in 1989 and in 2013 helped support over 7.000 families with children in hospital. The Charity relies on the generosity of supporters and fundraisers, including McDonald’s customers, without whom it would be unable to continue its work.
