Creative Cardiff supporters raise cash for new House

We were very impressed with the creative ideas our friends across Cardiff came up with to raise money for our first ever Ronald McDonald House opening in Cardiff next year.

Our friends at the Cardiff Blues arranged for us to have a bucket collection at a recent rugby match where the Cardiff Blues took on the Ospreys. Volunteers from Lloyds and McDonald's were on hand to raise awareness and a bit of cash too! Cardiff Blues also generously donated tickets to the match for our volunteers.

The brilliant Kayleigh Phillips also raised a whopping £1,600 from a recent bungee jump to raise money for the Cardiff House. Kayleigh has already put on a comedy night amongst other activities, but this time, it was jumping from a 200 foot crane!

Meanwhile, our lovely supporters at Lloyds put on a fantastic bake sale at the start of November to raise money for the Cardiff House. There were baked goods aplenty at the Black Horse Office in Cardiff that staff had brought in to sell, including some particularly tasty Oreo cheesecake. Lloyds raised a fantastic £221 from the bake sale and generous match funding from the company takes the total up to £442. Thank you Lloyds!

At the end of November, Cardiff House Fundraiser Amy was at the Tesco Metro in Canton armed with buckets, shakers and leaflets to raise awareness in the local community for the Cardiff House. It was a great day talking to the customers being able to tell them about the charity, who were very excited to hear that there is a brand new Ronald McDonald House being built in Wales! A huge thank you to Mandy and Katy, the Community Champions from Tesco who helped out on the day, as well as the fantastic volunteers who gave up their time for us. The collection raised a super £511.

Finally, on 4 December our very own House Manager Julian donned some festive glad rags to take part in the annual Cardiff Bay Santa and Elf Dash. There were Santa and Elves galore, and even the occasional Christmas Cracker, all running, jogging or walking their way round the 5k course. Along with his two children, Lottie and Harvey, Julian has already raised £180 for the Cardiff House and there is still time to sponsor him via his JustGiving page! We think he’s definitely earned himself a spot on Santa’s “nice” list this year!
