Merseyside bank staff raise big money for good causes

A quiz night and raffle organised by kind-hearted staff from the Bootle offices of the bank Santander raised an impressive £2,000 for two charities.

Over 130 people attended the fundraising evening at the Giro Club in Bootle on Friday 31 January 2014. Lucky raffle winners walked away with sought-after prizes including afternoon tea at the Hilton in Liverpool, a family ticket for Ellesmere Port‘s Blue Planet Aquarium and a luxury gift-set from handmade cosmetics company Lush.  Proceeds from the evening will now be split between Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park, which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families who have children receiving treatment at Arrowe Park Hospital, and cancer charity Macmillan.

In a further boost for these charities, Santander has agreed to match the funds raised by its enterprising Bootle colleagues – bringing the eventual fundraising total to £4,000.

Kayleigh Radford, who organised the event with her Santander colleague Antonia Corish,  says: “Our friends, families and colleagues turned out in force to have fun and raise money for charities, and we couldn’t have been happier with their support. Local businesses in and around Bootle also delivered in spades by donating raffle prizes. It was a real community effort and we are really pleased with the result.”

Cathy Churchill, House Manager at Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park, says: “Kayleigh, Antonia and their fabulous colleagues really pulled out all the stops to organise a successful event. The match-funding from Santander is the icing on the cake. We really are hugely grateful.”

1. Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park is one of 14 Houses in the UK run by Ronald McDonald House Charities, an independent charity which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation at hospitals across the UK. It enables seriously ill children to have their families close by when they are undergoing treatment and allows them to maintain a degree of normal family life.

2. The Charity opened in 1989 and in 2013 helped support over 7,000 families with children in hospital. The Charity relies on the generosity of supporters and fundraisers, including McDonald’s customers, without whom it would be unable to continue its work
