About this house
Ronald McDonald House Tooting keeps families together by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children at St George’s Hospital. The House offers a safe and comfortable place for these families to stay for as long as they need and provides all the creature comforts that you would find in a family home. The House has eight en suite bedrooms, a kitchen, so that families can prepare themselves good home-cooked food, laundry facilities and a lounge area, enabling them to continue to operate as a proper family unit.
In 2016, the House helped 108 families stay close to their children in hospital.
The House is more than just a place to stay. It offers comfort, support, a safe environment where families can interact, share their experiences and know that they will always have a shoulder to cry on.
About the hospital
St George's Hospital in Tooting is one of the oldest hospitals in London, originally founded in 1733. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of surgical services especially for children. Many families are transferred to St George's Hospital from Frimley Park Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital, as well as from further-afield.
"We live in Surrey which meant having to travel at least an hour to London to be near Thanisha. Finding out we had a room at Ronald McDonald House Tooting was one of the happiest days in our whole traumatic experience. Everyone in the House was very supportive, very receptive to our needs and we are forever grateful. The other families in the House made us realise we weren't the only ones going through this, which gave us strength and hope."
