RMHC accomodation

"The need for the services RMHC provides is enormous.  When a child is admitted to hospital the family can find the time pressures and cost of travelling to and from the hospital, puts a huge strain on family relationships. RMHC helps to support families through this difficult time by providing free accommodation in or near the hospital, where families can be together and can benefit from the support of other families facing similar situations. The accommodation we provide is so desperately needed at other locations and I want to ensure that RMHC grows to meet this challenge”

clive bowring“At the heart of what we do is the desire to support families while their children are in hospital. Having a child who needs to go into hospital can be a very difficult time for both parents and child alike. The child is often anxious and worried and the parents need to appear strong and solid to the child, even if they are secretly crumbling inside. RMHC is able to provide support to the parents and ensure they have somewhere to stay that is close to the hospital and available without cost.”

Michael HowardI am proud to support RMHC and it was my pleasure to speak at their Gala Dinner in March. Having seen the charity’s work first hand I would like to encourage more people to support them in providing accommodation for families who desperately need their help.”

“The families that stay in our houses are going through a very difficult time and often just appreciate being able to come over for a cup of tea and rest. It can be so rewarding to see how happy the family is when it’s time for them to take a well child home.”

Denise Johnson-Carr“This House is the difference between a family coping and not coping and we have a very close relationship with many of the families who stay here. They often travel back to hospital and they will come in here to say hello, which I think says a lot really.”
Denise Johnson-Carr, House Manager at Ronald McDonald House Bristol

“We can’t explain how we felt when we were offered a room at the Ronald McDonald House in Bristol. The house provided us with simple things we all take for granted.  We could wash clothes, prepare a decent meal, or just enjoy the luxury of having a double bed do that we could both sleep. Our son was also able to come and visit. It was good to be able to talk with other parents and tell them about your day; just knowing you were not the only one going through a rough time helped immensely.”

“I stayed at a Ronald McDonald House for about six weeks and it proved to be a real port in a storm. The House offered a safe place to keep our belongings, cook and more importantly to try and get some crucial rest. I am not sure I could have coped for six weeks on a camp bed in a hospital. I was able to come and go as I pleased and the staff were very supportive, but unobtrusive. The house helped me cope with my daughter’s illness, and keep my family together.  It was a comfort to know I was less than five minutes away from my daughter if she or the doctors needed me”.

“ I found the Ronald McDonald House to be very warm and welcoming. Every bedroom has a telephone directly linked to the hospital ward. This meant that I could be in direct contact with the ward and should an emergency arise at any time of day or very late at night they could get hold of me.”
