LOCATION: Ronald McDonald House Oxford

HOURS: Permanent. Full-time hours are 35 per week. Part-time applications will be considered.

REPORTS TO: Deputy House Manager

SALARY: £10.55 per hour

Job Purpose:

As a House Assistant you will assist the House Manager and Deputy House Manager with the day-to-day running of the House. In this front of house role you will be first point of contact for our families and will provide a strong administrative support to the House team. You will work alongside other members of the House team to provide a supportive environment for resident families within a communal living setting which includes supervising House Activities and Events. You will also implement and follow-up all Ronald McDonald House Charities Policies.


- To support the House team and daily operational tasks
- To deliver a high level of service to resident and external visitors to the House
- Updating and reviewing the daily referral lists and assigning rooms to families
- Liaise between the House and Hospital
- To check in families, and conduct House tours
- Manage the quick turnaround of vacant rooms to ensure families can be admitted in a timely manner
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the House
- Manage and maintain database systems
- Assist and support House volunteers
- To be involved in House events and activities

Knowledge and experience:

- Strong interest in working to support families
- Previous experience working Front of House (preferred but not essential)
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with the ability to adapt your communication style for different groups with the ability to show - empathy, tact and diplomacy
- Excellent and confident telephone manner
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Demonstrable numeracy skills and excellent attention to detail
- IT literate with good experience of MS Office and other relevant IT systems as appropriate for the role
- Proficient in using databases and an understanding of reporting
- Takes a creative and proactive approach to fundraising and problem-solving
- Plans, schedules and prioritises work effectively
- Good customer service skills
- Able to deal with challenging situations
- Thinking on your feet
