Breaking the bank
McDonald’s franchisees raise five-figure sum for charity in under 24 hours
Caption: Magnificent McDonald’s franchisees handed over a cheque for £20,264 to Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, the free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families who have children at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, earlier this month (Tuesday 2 September 2014).
The splendid sum was raised by franchisees and staff from 77 McDonald’s restaurants across the Midlands in one day of frenetic fundraising. Fun days, fancy dress parties and other special events were held in McDonald’s restaurants on Monday 26 May 2014 as part of a charity initiative dubbed ‘Breaking the Bank’ by staff.
With generous donations from customers, staff and other supporters of the House finally counted, the cheque was presented to Kay Hodgetts from Ronald McDonald House Birmingham at the Village Hotel in Solihull.

3. Ronald McDonald House Birmingham is one of 14 Houses in the UK run by Ronald McDonald House Charities, an independent charity which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation at hospitals across the UK. It enables seriously ill children to have their families close by when they are undergoing treatment and allows them to maintain a degree of normal family life.
4. Ronald McDonald House Charities opened in 1989 and last year helped support over 7,000 families with children in hospital. The Charity, which this year celebrates 25 years of keeping families together, relies on the generosity of supporters and fundraisers, including McDonald’s customers, without whom it would be unable to continue its work.
