”Doing something to make a difference in the community is a great motivator”
The team at Marks & Spencer in Spinningfields, Manchester tell us why they wanted to get involved at Ronald McDonald House Manchester and why they found the experience so rewarding.
We are part of the Plan A team at the Marks & Spencer Finance Business Service Centre in Spinningfields, Manchester. Plan A is M&S’s sustainability plan which focuses on wellbeing, caring for the planet, and transforming lives and communities.
As part of Plan A within our office, we choose a local charity to support each year. Our colleagues nominate charities and then vote for the one they would like us to support. Ronald McDonald House Charities was a clear favourite for our staff this year. Several of our colleagues have had experiences with the charity so it really meant a lot to them.
Every member of staff at M&S is entitled to one day a year to volunteer for any charity of their choice. Last year one of our teams spent their volunteer day at Ronald McDonald House Manchester. They took part in activities ranging from arts and crafts and gardening to cleaning and writing thank you letters. The team really enjoyed their day and they certainly felt like they’d been able to make a difference.
Knowing that a Ronald McDonald House offers a range of volunteering opportunities allowing our employees to go along, help out and really get a feel for what the Charity does makes having Ronald McDonald House Charities as our charity of the year even more special. Being able to take a day out of the office and do something to make a difference in the community is a great motivator for our staff and when it allows us to see where the money we are raising through various activities around the office goes, it’s even more special!
This June, Marks & Spencer employees from stores, offices and distribution centres are taking part in a nationwide company initiative called Making Every Moment Special in the Community. Plan A teams throughout the country were asked to organise a volunteer day for a charity or community project local to them. As soon as we heard about this we wanted to be able to plan a day with Ronald McDonald House Manchester.
The team at the Manchester House got on board and quickly helped us to organise a pyjama party on 9th June. We were inundated with offers from volunteers in the office who wanted to go along and help on the day. We are really looking forward to the day and hope that we can truly make a difference to Ronald McDonald House Charities not only on this day but for the rest of the year!
